"Pop music, is primarily guitar-based, melody-driven rock 'n roll music that is inspired by the spirit of the music that graced the radio waves in the 1960s and 1970s, but with a modern edge." ~ David Bash, Founder/CEO of the International Pop Overthrow Festival.
Waterline is a band of five seasoned musicians that have come together to create their own original music. They blend genre lines between rock, folk rock, progressive rock and pop music in the delivery of their tunes. The band adds keyboards and acoustic guitars to soften and enhance their message. They might remind you of Alan Parsons, Phish or the Moody Blues.
The songs they play are original, creative and speak to a person's heart and soul. The vocal harmonies and the blend of instruments deliver a sound that is light but powerful. Waterline works to capture the crowd's attention by interaction, message content and change ups in the songs that take the listener to a different plane and bring them back again.
The band attracts a wide audience with their music, their messages, and crowd participation. Waterline is a "feel good" band - they will make you think of great things that have happened in your life, of the humor and of times gone by. "Life is good" is their message!
Some quotes from others about Waterline's music: "You speak to my heart" "Wow, the sound and show were amazing!" "It's as if you wrote that song about me and my life" "I am totally blown away by the power and delivery of your music - fantastic!"
Waterline works hard to create a show that is upbeat and interacts with the crowd for an enjoyable experience. Waterline would like to share their show with you and your event!
Steve Fosdick (guitar, vocals)
The study of Reiki and spirituality has given him the best gift of all- to be at peace with himself, accept the world around him and look for those little "miracles" that happen in all of our lives. Songs like "Believe", "Home" and "In My Dreams" all reflect on the intertwining of the corporeal and spiritual worlds.
As a youth in High School and college Steve played in a rock and roll band that kept busy most weekends. The advent of marriage and raising a family left music on hold until 1998, when he again took up the acoustic guitar and started writing songs. Now, with the strength and power of the other four musicians in Waterline his songs have come to life for everyone to enjoy!
Steve's inspirations and favorite artists range far and wide from Keith Urban of country music fame, Martin Sexton of indie fame, to Three Doors Down and Matchbox 20, there is not much music that he doesn't like? but the core of his music falls back to the early 70s with the likes of James Taylor, Carole King, Tom Petty, Michael Stanley Band, Bob Dylan, Savoy Brown, The Frost, Gordon Lightfoot, Guess Who, Wishbone Ash and so many others too numerous to name. As the founder of Waterline he feels blessed to have the other members of the band? without them Waterline would still just be a dream!
Randy Spicer (lead guitar, vocals)
Randy Spicer, was born a poor orphaned child in China and sent to America in a case of fireworks... not really folks, but this tells you of his humor!
Randy is self taught, born in Big Rapids, MI, and played Rock and Roll & Country in every "hole" since the mid '70's. Randy has been playing guitar since the age of 12 when he first picked up an acoustic guitar. He then formed a group called "Dreams" at 15, got into a Rock and Roll band at 17, and played ALIBI clubs and alot of college parties around the Central Michigan area. He joined his brother's country group at 20, playing bass guitar and then lead guitar a year later. Randy moved to Northwest Michigan, DJ'd partys and weddings from 1993-1996, and has been in numerous classic Rock and Roll bands from 1996 to present. Along the way Randy has been involved in recording sessions and large shows with various artists.
His musical influences range from Johnny Cash to Pink Floyd. Randy's favorite music comes from friend's originals and being lucky enough to hear them. He claims to be too ugly for Radio, but we did find a candid shot of him at a recent gig. Waterline is very fortunate to have someone of Randy's caliber joining our ranks! His tunes and style are welcome additions!
Paul Bendig (bass, vocals)
Paul's early influences were 70's jam, blues, and rock bands like the Allman Brothers and ZZ Top. 70's and 80's rock songs also played a big part in his musical development. Years of concert, jazz, and marching band music in Flint schools and the city had their place in Paul's repertoire.
Working for a neighborhood band at 15, he learned about the joy of bass. Taking a handful of guitar lessons, he started playing bass at 16. Self taught on the bass, Paul has been an active player in the Northern Michigan music scene for over ten years. Paul's bass style, vocals and harmonies have added another dimension to Waterline.
Greg Miller (keyboards, vocals)
Born and raised in Jackson, Mi., Greg started with music early on, by the age of 7 he was taking piano lessons and as he turned the age of 10 he started singing in the choir at church. He played drums through Junior High and High School with the marching and concert bands as well as the orchestra. In Junior High School he started playing keyboards. Along the way Greg also learned to play rhythm guitar. Throughout his High School years he played in a couple of rock & roll bands.
A week after finishing up college at Michigan State University, he received an invitation to join a very good band from Ann Arbor. He played rock & roll with them for a couple of years touring around the state. He then moved on to a Vegas-style show group and traveled with them all over the Midwest.
Since settling in Benzie County, he has enjoyed many different music projects. Early on, he planned & directed a show of college students as performers for several summer seasons. Recent years he has been playing good old rock & roll. Greg is a key part of waterline bringing his many talents and music theory to play.
Mike Sagers (percussion, vocals)
Mike has been drumming for years, in a variety of bands and styles. He has been very active in the music scene in Northern Michigan for more years than he cares to remember. He had played in a variety of bands from Rock & Roll to Country.
He enjoys all genres of music: country, blues, rock n roll, ballads, funk, but likes the blues based jam band style the best. His influences include the old 70's stuff especially the Allman Bros, Johnny Winter, and Cream. He thinks the best way to shine is hooking up with good musicians. The Waterline project inspires him because of its original material, musical diversity, and playing with guys who are open to anything. Mike likes to think of himself as just another guy, nothing special, but Waterline would not be what it is today without his insight and enthusiasm!
